So the incident with the dinosaurs has brought to my attention that many people here are less prepared to deal with the dangers of this city than they'd like. I have w number of years of experience teaching both firearms and hand to hand combat - I could also teach some forms of melee weapons as well. I'm also somewhat at loose ends at the moment. You'd there be interest?

I should warn you, as Elena is likely to tell you, I am not an easy instructor. And I won't teach people who can't show me that they won't misuse what I teach them.

Actually, I was thinking about asking you to coach me in picking up my skill with pistols. I trained with them for a while, but I was an office clerk - not much need for them. Somehow I think they will be more necessary here.

Given what I've seen so far, I'm inclined to agree. I can teach you privately - I suspect you need less shouting at than some of the others here, heh.

Date: 2009-07-19 06:59 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
That would be greatly appreciated... I tend to, ah, not do terribly well under high pressure unless I'm writing or transposing for someone... But thank you! What sort of hand-to-hand combat would you be teaching?

I know a few different styles, but for someone with a smaller build like you or me, it'd probably be something like aikido, which relies on using your opponent's force against them - I suspect you haven't spent as Mich time as me building up strength

Date: 2009-07-19 08:35 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
Small...er?

Mm, no, I don't have much strength, which is why I usually focused on my gunmanship, but if the gun is taken out of the picture, I would be in rather a larger amount of trouble. I will do my best to learn all you can teach me!

Date: 2009-07-19 10:13 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I spar with a man who's about six two and two hundred pounds of pure muscle. Five four is definitely small, trust me.

And weapons are good, but you're right, you can't rely on having them all the time.

Date: 2009-07-19 10:19 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
Ah! R-right! You must have been wearing heels or platforms last time I saw you, because you were definitely taller than me.

I assume you're going to be teaching in slacks...? Not a skirt?

Date: 2009-07-19 11:44 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I do usually wear heeled boots, yes. And skirts are beyond useless for fighting in - there's a reason the uniform is the same for both genders.

Date: 2009-07-20 12:30 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
Oh, good. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to learn in a skirt - I don't really have any that are suitable for getting scuffed and torn. Should I invest in a pair of rugged heeled boots for training?

Date: 2009-07-20 01:06 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Haha, no, just wear whatever you would normally. I wouldn't even bother with the heels, myself except for working with a group of men who are all at least six inches taller than me.

Maybe you and I should go shopping at some point - clothes that look good and are still functional would be good, and I have no head for that sort of thing. You, on the other hand, h-have always had good fashion sense.

Date: 2009-07-20 06:48 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
What, suits, suits, and more suits? It's mostly about getting the fit right, really. Mine are all custom - we use an armored fabric, it cuts down on the wear and tear little.

But if you'd like to, sure.

Date: 2009-07-20 08:42 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
W-well, all the suits I have a skirt suits from my time in the military, which are less than flattering and... well, you always look very sharp and nice in yours, so even if I can't get mine professionally tailored, maybe you can at least help me find something that will look decent? I'm going to need some things to go to job interviews and such in, after all... But if you'd rather not, I can go on my own!

Date: 2009-07-20 09:43 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
No, no, its fine, I need to buy a few things myself anyway. You just have mote faith in my fashion sense than I do.

Date: 2009-07-20 09:55 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
You should be more confident! N-not that you're not confident in yourself already, but just that you always seem to know just what to wear - I think I've only seen you twice without your usual poise, and that was some time ago and under rather stressful circumstances.

If you'd like, though, I was hoping to go shopping this afternoon - there are some rather marvelous sales going on right now, and Mr. Sparda has asked me to come take care of his library, so I feel I'd better fit the part, and I'm not sure that my current wardrobe can hold up to his standards.

Um if you need any other teachers I'm fairly talented with a rifle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simo_Hayha)! And I'm not too bad with knives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommi_puukko) either!

Date: 2009-07-19 07:39 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I'll see how much interest there is - the offer is appreciated, though!

Date: 2009-07-19 09:23 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] thousandlakes.livejournal.com
It's no problem!

Eh, are incidents like that with the dinosaurs really common though?

Date: 2009-07-19 11:46 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Not sure, I haven't been here long. Better safe than sorry, though.

Date: 2009-07-19 10:58 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] clumsygentleman.livejournal.com
Spreading the skills might be a good idea, yeah... Not that I have much to teach, but still.

Date: 2009-07-19 11:47 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
You could always come to learn.

Date: 2009-07-20 10:15 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] clumsygentleman.livejournal.com
Never liked guns, though... But yeah. I could come and learn some. Can't hurt, right?

Date: 2009-07-20 03:54 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Well, there's always hand to hand, as well.

Date: 2009-07-20 09:13 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] clumsygentleman.livejournal.com
Yeah. That is true. That and axes is what I have survived by.

Date: 2009-07-24 07:20 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Heh. Sounds like you could tell some interesting stories.

Date: 2009-07-24 08:07 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] clumsygentleman.livejournal.com
He. Yeah. I guess. I should have added dumb luck on the list to, though.

Date: 2009-07-24 08:24 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
It definitely comes in handy - I've had a few situations where it's been the only thing between me and some very nasty consequences. Unfortunately, it's not something you can really count on.

Date: 2009-07-20 11:21 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] dutchmancpt.livejournal.com
That is a very good idea. If you, or anyone else would like to learn how to use a sword, I would love to teach it.

Date: 2009-07-20 03:48 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I'm not too old to learn something new, I think. What type, out of curiosity? I'm somewhat familar with the one-edged longswords my people use, but know others who've used different styles, usually double-edged.

Date: 2009-07-20 09:36 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] dutchmancpt.livejournal.com
I got a lot of different types here. I am a blacksmith among other things... Lets call it a hobby of mine. Rapiers, small-swords, cutlass, daggers... I have most models here. You are from Asia, correct? Well. I had an asian sailor among my crew once. I never did learn how to make the swords used there...

Date: 2009-07-24 07:14 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Interesting. I'd love to see your work - while I don't use blades much myself, I know how to spot a good one.

My homeland is actually called Wutai, but from what I've been reading, it does bear a marked resemblance to the Asian cultures of Earth-worlds. I wasn't from a smith family, though, and was apprencticed to a temple, so unfortunately I can't answer any questions as to construction.

Your welcome to visit my ship, if you wish.

Date: 2009-07-24 08:18 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Heh. I think I'm going to be a bit busy for the next few days, but I'll be certain to take you up on that offer when I have the time.

Date: 2009-07-24 10:25 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] dutchmancpt.livejournal.com
Your welcome when you can and wish.

Since the only guns I use seem to be out-dated... (I have seen some really interesting guns out there...) I would like to take some lessons. Miss?

Just Tseng, please. Or ma'am if you insist. I have both seen and fired some very interesting weapons - prototypes, mostly, although a few made production.

Date: 2009-07-20 09:30 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] malonebugsy.livejournal.com
Tseng. Right you are. I'm Bugsy Malone. I used to have a talent for guns. Mostly used to tommy's though. I am very interested to learn how to use other kinds as well....
