Yo, Maddie! This will probably help you in deciphering that sword-crack. Now, if only I could find character sketches or something for the movie art. Would totally kill for those right now.

On an entirely unrelated note, apparently my Shakespeare proffessor now associates me with Horatio. My work here is done XD

Jeebus, Cloud is special.

Date: 2005-10-04 09:52 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
I think 'special' may be a bit of an understatement, here XD

Date: 2005-10-04 10:02 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_237251 (from dreamwidth.org)
Cloud is very special. XD

Date: 2005-10-04 10:17 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Sephiroth too, but I think Cloud is more special XD

Date: 2005-10-04 10:29 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_237251 (from dreamwidth.org)
Yeah... it's a close call, but Cloud edges him out only because the Masamune isn't a 500 lb metal puzzle.

And he wears half a skirt.

Date: 2005-10-04 10:42 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Well, Sephiroth had decided that he is above shirts, and I'm not sure exactly how he maneuvers the Masamune around, that thing is like seven feet long. Guess I get to find out at AB.

I think the jigsaw puzzle bit does hand the win to Cloud, though XD

Date: 2005-10-04 10:54 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_237251 (from dreamwidth.org)
Way above shirts. I'd love to know if the leather chafes Sephiroth's nipples. He's gotta get cold wearing that, and I'm assuming the overcoat isn't satin-lined... or maybe it is?

Cloud's sword is pure crack. He must be He-Man.

And how the hell does the Masamune stand up to that thing? You've gotta fight a Cloud and tell me how well your sword stands up.

Date: 2005-10-04 11:06 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Well, it's probably lined with _something_. Otherwise you get all sorts of seams showing. Ironically, mine _will_ be lined in satin XD (but not shiny satin. Nice, matte satin).

I'm starting to suspect ShinRa branched out into textiles at some point, actually. Because the way those sleeves fit is not the way leather works. They look practically sprayed on. And the Turks have indestructible suits. XD

I think that will largely depend on what Maddie and I end up making ths swords out of XD I'm edging towards wood or fiberglass for mine.

Date: 2005-10-04 11:33 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_237251 (from dreamwidth.org)
Maybe it's latex? It's all pretty flappy for leather, and they all move pretty easily when wearing it. Hmm... *ponders* Yeah, the Turks' suits are something else, though, geez. They MAGIC.

ShinRa textiles...

Rufus: "I'm wearing our new line of kulats."

My brother's got a wooden Buster Sword. That thing's heavy. Fiberglass, though...

Date: 2005-10-04 11:46 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
It's got too much texture for latex, so I've given up trying to figure out what the hell is going on there and just bought some nice leather-look PVC that's thin enough to drape well.

Fiberglass can be really light and look awesome if you know how to do it well - this guy's (http://fantasyprops.com) work is really good. I have no experience with fiberglass, though, which is why I may use wood for the Masamune if I can figure out someway to keep it from snapping. It's thin enough that it wouldn't be too heavy.

I figure if I can carry this thing (http://www.tokyo-tower.org/gallery/Anime-Boston-2004/AB04_020), which is all wood, around with no trouble other than accidently whacking it on things, I should be good XD

The answer is 'balance.' Alternatively you could also use '42' as the answer but I don't think that would help you all that much.

If Sephiroth has a 7-foot blade, and all swords are balanced just about the hilt, you've basically got the equivalent weight of two 7-foot blades, one end which is extremely dense and packed into the 12-foot-something end that is the hilt.

Enjoy your life. :P

12-foot-something end that is the hilt.

12-inch-something end that is the hilt.

FIXED.

Date: 2005-10-04 11:58 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
No, it's not the balance aspect - it's the sheer size of the thing. I kept whacking into _everything_ with my scythe, which has a handle that's probably 6'6", and I was just trying to carry it around upright XD

And 42 is the answer to _everything_.

Date: 2005-10-04 04:41 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] doctorskuld.livejournal.com (from dreamwidth.org)

Sure, length is an issue. You're going to be decapitating, slashing, and poking left right and center. The con is going to look like a slaugterhouse after you walk through it. :3

But at least you don't have to worry about air resistance. :3

Date: 2005-10-04 06:02 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] doctorskuld.livejournal.com (from dreamwidth.org)
Oddly enough, I have the urge to do Reno now. X3

But only if there's a cute Rude with me. :P

Date: 2005-10-04 06:12 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
You would make a pretty awesome Reno - you've got the personality XD;

I'd offer, but I sense bald + me = no. Also, I don't have it within my power to grow a goatee XD; But if you manage to find one and want a Rufus to tag along, I'd be totally up for that, because I <3 Rufus. Even if he does have a bad bleach-job in FF7.

You would make a pretty awesome Reno - you've got the personality XD;

I'd always thought of myself as a Sephiroth sort of type, y'know. It's always a pleasant surprise to discover I'm really somebody else. :p

I've always wondered the same about Rufus myself. Does the carpet match the drapes? :p Not sure who I'd ask to find out though. Tseng might know. X3

I'd offer, but I sense bald + me = no.

*laughs* Totally understandable. And well, you're under no obligation at all since I pulled out of an albeit rather lame not-really-a-promise to do Zack. :p If I one day find a Rude, I think the whole world will know because you'll hear my squee from MILES AND MILES AND MILES away. X3

Date: 2005-10-04 06:46 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
You're _way_ too whacky to be Seph, I think XD Hell, I am too, although it's not stopping me.

...And you killed me. Right there XD (Although, yeah, Tseng may be a good bet)

Aww. I may forgive you about Zack. I just know who isn't getting any of the Cloud/Seph action XD

Date: 2005-10-04 08:22 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] doctorskuld.livejournal.com (from dreamwidth.org)
You're _way_ too whacky to be Seph, I think XD

I agree with you. I'm totally a Reno down at my very core. :3

Hell, I am too, although it's not stopping me.

No, but the whacky character design of Nomura might. :/ Well, not stop you but provide many obstacles, walls, and hoops for you to run/jump/smash into and over. (In that order.)

I just know who isn't getting any of the Cloud/Seph action XD

:(

Date: 2005-10-04 08:35 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Well, run, jump, and smash into them I will, because this counts for a grade XD

...Aww. Maybe I'll relent. But you owe me one XD

Date: 2005-10-04 09:48 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] doctorskuld.livejournal.com (from dreamwidth.org)
..wait...grade?
Since when did this grade thing happen?

Date: 2005-10-05 07:47 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
I'm doing it as my senior project, because I am insane. And I'm fairly certain our senior projects count as a grade, albeit a really leniently scored one.

Date: 2005-10-05 09:11 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] doctorskuld.livejournal.com (from dreamwidth.org)
They let you do that as your senior project? o_O;;

Aren't you supposed to be doing something academic? Like an experiment or something? XD *laughs* I mean, how're they going to know you have a good costume? o_o

Date: 2005-10-05 01:12 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
No, that's the junior research project from hell, which I already lived through. All we have to do for our senior project is spending 100 hours learning something new. And yes, before you ask, I _am_ learning something new - hardcore prop-building, dealing with wigs, and pattern drafting XD

Date: 2005-10-04 02:25 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_297251 (from dreamwidth.org)
*Dies.**Has Auto-Life equipped.*

I love you.
Hard and Lots.

I'm going to attempt to do as the movie says and make it so that at least one of the swords can slip on and off the main one.

PS- Still love you.

If you're Horatio, you need to learn to fence!

Date: 2005-10-04 02:39 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Someone on my flist linked it, and I was all 'SCORE!' XD I'm willing to offer whatever help and advice I can - I love building stuff :D

And I think we would make a lot of people very happy if we save that lovin' for the cosplay photos. Except Skuld, because she is a h0r and thus gets no cosplay photo love XD;

I do know how to fence, or at least did. But I suck at it, which is why I quit like four years ago ^^;

Date: 2005-10-04 05:43 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_297251 (from dreamwidth.org)
Then I love your F-list too! I just keep telling myself, if you can do Kamui's drugged-out shinken, then Cloud's walking innuendo *can't* be that much worse...

I will bottle it then, and keep it safe until con time. You know, I think I've finally figured out the Seph/Cloud pairing...

Seph: "I look good in leather, and you look good in a dress. I think the fangrils will aprrove."
Cloud: ". . ."
Seph: "I will take that as a yes." (b-_-)b
Cloud: So much better then Barett...

Then you're ace, lady. Bah, but fencing is too shiny to give up. Did you do foil or saber (or, epee)?

Date: 2005-10-04 06:11 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Yeah, my flist is totally full of awesome XD

And yes, that is probably a lot of the appeal, I think XD Although, I also ship Cloud/Seph because of A Long, Hard Road which is huge and soul-consuming like that.

I did foil, but I'm really awful about sticking to things because I'm lazy, so between that and being awful at it and getting a job, I decided to stop. I considered joining the fencing team this year, but one of their practices is when I work x.x
