I am once again contemplating attempting Seishirou's kimono from the wedding pic (curiously, is there a reason it's called that?)

This is bad. I swore I would never do those outfits, as I would kill both myself and my wallet getting them done. But...they're so pretty, and the dyeing and painting would be an intresting challenge...

...Okay. I'm going to go hit my head against something until I can convince myself that this is a Bad Idea.

You always sound like you make very good efforts on all your costumes, so I would rather support you ^^;;

As for why it's called that....I don't know who started it, but I like to think of it as how they are dolled up, the red thread and...just their expressions. It feels calm...I guess ^.^ Yeah, so I have no clue.

And a while back, someone had written a bunch of 'vows' on the picture, too. Like over a year ago. Eh ^^;;

Because those would be wedding kimono ;). Hence the white, the only other occaision one would wear it outside of his onmyouji job- he's either dead or getting married.

I'm only aware of a woman's wedding kimono, so thanks for clearing that up ^.^ I learned something new too~~ XD XD

Date: 2003-12-04 02:41 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Snk. Well, yes, it's the woman that wears the white kimono. Sei's wearing the man's.

Date: 2003-12-04 02:45 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_374336 (from dreamwidth.org)
I'd be a little curious if it was the other way around >.> Though these days, it's become...more of a suit-n-tie affair, hasn't it? I haven't really peeked deeply into Japanese weddings, not recently anyway.

Date: 2003-12-04 02:48 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Depends. A lot of weddings are done with the suit-and-tie, white dress, Christian-style because it's cheaper. Others have the shinto ceremony, but dress in Western clothing for the reception. I did a fair amount of research on it for a fic I'm writing, you see.. but I'm still looking for on more component ;).

Date: 2003-12-04 03:00 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_374336 (from dreamwidth.org)
I'm just amused that apparently a Christian wedding is the cheap way to go. Though, in my opinion, there's not a lot of...colour to it anyway. But anyway, sankyuu~ *^.^*

Date: 2003-12-04 03:06 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Well, given that more Japanese weddings cost around 30,000 dollars, if my calculations are correct. It helps that the guests are expected to give around 200-300 dollars each, I suppose.

Date: 2003-12-04 03:17 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_374336 (from dreamwidth.org)
Helps, if you have a Hellish list of people to invite. Ouch, ouch, ouch.

Date: 2003-12-04 02:56 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Interesting ^^ I wasn't sure if that's what it was, or if there was something else that gave it that name. Thank you ^^

Date: 2003-12-04 02:59 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Unless by 'support' you mean 'come and help me with the hours of handpainting', that costume is practically cosplay suicide. I almost killed myself doing two shikifuku in one year, and that is ten times worse ^^ Someday, maybe. But thank you for the vote of confidence ^^ (Have I even ever pimped you any of my costume pics? I can't remember, they're one of my few creations I love showing off ^^;)

Date: 2003-12-04 03:06 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_374336 (from dreamwidth.org)
Heh, support as in I'll sit here and, uh, cheer XD I couldn't handpaint to save my life, I think x_x;;

You have not and I'm going to quite possibly demand you do since the only picture I even remember that would be cosplay would be from that layout you had.

*grins* If you want the amusing commentary, catch me on AIM. If not...well, I can just leave you the link or something ^^

Want commentary. Shall hop on hopefully tonight. Or something.

Eeee, all the school people are up now. *scurries to bed*

curiously, is there a reason it's called that?

I believe it was Val, the former onwer of Sakurazukamori.net, who started calling the Wedding Pic :3 Way back when it first came out, because she thought they looked like wedding kimono. She used the term on her blog/sites, back when they were still around.

Date: 2003-12-04 02:14 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_70386 (from dreamwidth.org)

You're insane.

And yeah, mostly because of the red string and the veil and stuff. The way they're standing side-by-side...

Date: 2003-12-04 02:16 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Snk. *nods at icon* Sure they do. They're terrible manly ;).

Date: 2003-12-04 02:53 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Considering purple was the color of royalty a few centuries ago, yes, they are rather manly ^^ I'm entirely on Nicole's side on this one, I think ^^

Date: 2003-12-04 02:58 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
If Seishirou lived a few centuries ago, that would be an issue, I suppose. But seeing as he doesn't... well, the effect of the purple is less regal, and more... how you say... flaming.

Date: 2003-12-04 03:27 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_70386 (from dreamwidth.org)

::shakes head::

It's okay if you can't wear purple, honey.

Not everyone can pull off modern fashion with enough flare.

"Flaming" would be orange. Purple is fine for modern business. But I didn't expect everyone to be as up on high-class fashion as I am.

Who spent hours in Men's Clothing stores, doing research, and over $1,000 on their Sei costume? Yeah, that's what I thought...

::coughvaluevillagecough::

Date: 2003-12-04 03:34 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Not enough research to actually go and read the manga, it seems. By far and wide, most often he wears black and white, just as I do.

Shame on the accuracy, though. Same reason I couldn't find it in myself to 'pull off' such a 'classy' wig, either, I suppose.

Seishirou certainly wears one of those.

Date: 2003-12-04 04:10 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_70386 (from dreamwidth.org)

Hah...

The wig was cool, if not accurate, which I have redeemed since then.

Man, you really are insecure if you take a conversation about whether or not Sei would wear a purple tie and turn into a personal assault against one's costume.

And yeah, I love wigs. I also love my hair, which is why I don't torture it with vicious haircuts and hair dye for all the costumes I do. Well, except for Kiba...that guy BUTCHERED my hair. >.>;; Which only re-enforces my desire to use wigs.

Date: 2003-12-04 06:39 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Nah, just pointing out that if you really want to talk canon, I've got the vast majority of scenes to pick from for mine- accuracy is the thing, hence the hair cut.

And my hair? Already short, and now gloriously soft and shiny ;).

Date: 2003-12-04 08:11 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_70386 (from dreamwidth.org)

::rolls eyes::

I'm sure it is.

And you keep talking like the purple tie is the ONLY thing I wear. I have your "canon" outfit, too, you know...black tie and short black hair (excuse me, wig) and all.

I'm just a more versatile Seishirou than you. I adapt and blend into any situation :D

Date: 2003-12-04 11:21 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Tch. You're more versatile period, as am I, as Ari here only does X Seishirou ^^ We do other costumes. Thus, wigs are neccesary. I think I continue to remain on your side here, Nicole ^^

Date: 2003-12-04 08:11 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
And the black and white's not the only suit/tie combo I own, either? Funny that. And I have the shikifuku, I might add. And I've done TB.

Bah, I do wigs with other costumes. Seishirou is the most important one for me.

Date: 2003-12-04 11:20 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
You don't have the shikifuku, Clare does. You just wear it ^^ And, um, what other costumes, as of yet ^^? Unless you count crappy!Sepiroth, but you've already heard me out on that one ^^

Date: 2003-12-04 11:46 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Uh... dude? I freely admit that I can't sew. But Clare didn't sew it either- and I bought the materials and such.

So I guess your definition of cosplayer is not the person that wears the clothes, but the one that makes them? Then yeah, I have X Seishirou and Sephiroth. And Clare's mom has the shikifuku. But I own it.

Heh. Nice to know I have not one but _two_ Seishirou cosplayers threatened by my good looks and charm, though ;).

Date: 2003-12-05 12:10 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
Well, if you go by craftsmanship judging guidlines, the one wearing the costume gets a pat on the back and some photos taken, and the one that made it gets the prize ^^ I tend to think of the cosplayer as the one who puts the costume together and wears it, which doesn't really work so well here. My point was more credit where it's due ^^

And I'm not feeling at all threatened, just particularly annoying today ^^ But Nicole is right, it's probably about time to put this particular debate to rest ^^ I can find something else to amuse me torrow, I suppose.

Date: 2003-12-04 11:36 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_70386 (from dreamwidth.org)

Yeah, but the point being, -I- wasn't the one harping on how important is it was to be "canon" Seishirou.

I was just pointing out that I own "canon" Seishirou as well, plus more. Which, apparently, you do, too.

...

What were we arguing about again?

I think it's time to put this thread to bed...

Date: 2003-12-04 11:46 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_25570 (from dreamwidth.org)
Probably ;).

Date: 2003-12-04 02:55 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] momijizukamori.dreamwidth.org
What, insane for contemplating it ^^? I am far from the first to do so, you know. And I think I've managed to hold off for now. Maybe when I find a new Subaru, preferably one with some artistic talent ^^

Date: 2003-12-04 07:47 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] suiel.livejournal.com (from dreamwidth.org)
In Chinese legend, the fatherly God-in-the-moonlight ties a red string around the ankles of the man and woman who are supposed to be husband and wife someday. Thus, no matter how far apart they are, they will eventually get married...

Thus, it's called the wedding picture because of the red string.

Date: 2003-12-04 09:18 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ext_81738 (from dreamwidth.org)
I'm sure you've got it answered a 10000000x now, but those are wedding kimonos. And the red thread? There's an old Japanese legend that every person's soulmate is attached to that thread. But you have to find them... But it's reasonable being that Seishirou and Subaru come from old Clans and probably Subaru didn't go full-out Christian in the first place, especially after Hokuto died. So it's fair to assume that he'd also believe in the legend, thus it being true! *hyperventilates* Whoo. That was a lot<3

But I noticed no one else actually explained the red threads. So I did for j00.

Do It!

*shifty eyes*
