practicality: (fuck my life)
This house has far, far too many stairs.

[locked to the firearms class // light security]
My apologies for not informing you ahead of time of the change in instructors - however, I trust you will all treat Elena with the same respect you would show me. It'll be a few more weeks before I'm back - though I may stop in next week to check up on things.
[/locked]

Oh, and for those who expressed interest in hand-to-hand training - I'm afraid that's on hold for probably the next month and a half at least.

Only a month and a half? That's much shorter than I thought it would be! I'm sure we can manage for a while. It's better to keep practicing instead of taking such a long break, right? And I'm sure you have Elena reporting back each class to tell you what went on. I wouldn't worry too much.

Date: 2009-10-07 04:35 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Well, there's a difference of several weeks between when I'm well enough to teach and back up to full strength. And yes, it's better for you to keep practicing. I wouldn't say that I'm worried, though - just a bit bored, heh.

Date: 2009-10-07 05:12 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
Well, Sparda-sama has given me a bit of leave while he's out of town... I suppose I could bring over some board games, if you'd like! Or maybe chess, if you know how to play? I know the rules, but I'm not very good at it yet. I probably wouldn't be much of a challenge, but it might relieve some of the boredom for a while. And I'm sure the kittens would love a chance to roam over the room for a while.

Date: 2009-10-07 06:32 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I'm actually a fairly good chess player - though I could try to teach you some tricks.

Or actually - you may have to do some hunting in Chinatown, but if you can turn up a go set - it's a grid, with two sets of stones, white and black. It's a bit like chess, but I haven't played in a long time, so we'll be more evenly matched.

Date: 2009-10-07 08:09 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
Go? Hm! I've never seen such a thing! I'll have to look it up... If you would be so kind as to teach me how to play, I'd be more than willing to go find a set for us.

Date: 2009-10-07 08:30 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
It's sort of an analog of chess, in my homeland - I'm fairly certain I saw some sets when I was kimono-shopping. The rules are very simple, but strategy can be quite complex - though I'm not nearly that good, heh.

Date: 2009-10-07 08:35 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
Well, we'll just learn together, then! Hopefully it'll help keep your mind off things, too. Do you think Reno and Elena would like a set as well? I'm sure he's just as twitchy to be up and about.

Date: 2009-10-07 09:04 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Hopefully.

And no doubt, but I think Reno is more of a cards man, on the whole. I'm fairly certain he and Elena are finding enough ways to keep themselves occupied, though.

Date: 2009-10-08 01:45 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
I suppose so. She seems very attached to him at the moment. And one deck of cards is very much like another. Except for that gorgeous set of cards I saw in a novelty store the other day... "Tarot" cards, I think they were.

Date: 2009-10-08 02:56 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I think he's enjoying the attention, heh.

And hmm. Never heard of them.

Date: 2009-10-08 03:50 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] librariansheart.livejournal.com
I hope so! He's in a much better mood whenever she's around, and she seems a little more relaxed.

Me either, but they didn't look like playing cards. Each one was different, but they had the most beautiful pictures on them.

Hand-to-hand training?

Date: 2009-10-08 02:29 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Combat, yes - some people expressed a desire to learn, given the dangers of this city, and I've had experience teaching before.

Date: 2009-10-08 02:43 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Yes - though as I said, bit on hold at the moment, unfortunately.

You're a soldier, correct?

Date: 2009-10-08 02:48 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
Personal matters come before volunteer work.

Affirmative, sir.

Date: 2009-10-08 02:53 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Heh. Believe me, I'd rather be teaching. Knee injuries put that a bit out of the question, though.

Infantry, or...? And I'm not sure we've been properly introduced - I'm Tseng.

Date: 2009-10-08 02:56 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
Knee injury? Bad place to get hit.

Whatever they need from me, sir. Spartan-087, but call me Kelly. It's a pleasure.

Date: 2009-10-08 03:09 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
A truth I know all too well.

Ah, I see. My group is special ops, mostly, although I've worked with both the regular military and the elite genetically-engineered troops in my world.

Date: 2009-10-08 03:11 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
Then you would've worked with my division back in my world if you worked with the latter there too.

Date: 2009-10-08 03:42 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Heh. I'd be interested in seeing what your skills are like - though not one-on-one, unless you're used to sparring with unenhanced people. I had a friend who was a memeber of the SOLDIER program, and when he forgot to pull his punches - well, let's say I spent the next day and a half in the infirmary.

Date: 2009-10-08 03:43 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
Sparring not so much, sir. I could try.

Date: 2009-10-08 03:52 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Heh. Well, I'd rather not risk another injury right after this one heals, I think.

Both melee and firearms skills, I assume?

Date: 2009-10-08 03:53 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
Understandable.

Yes, sir.

Date: 2009-10-08 04:36 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Interesting. SOLDIERs were trained in melee first, firearms as back-up only - if you're closer to fifty-fifty, I'd very much like to see your skills in action.

I can probably arrange for some range time, if you're interested. I may not be able to stand but I'll be damned if I can't fire a gun like this.

Date: 2009-10-08 04:41 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
If you don't use a gun, you won't get far in our battlefields, sir. Especially against Covenant technology. Spartans have been trained to use any weapon so we can be ready for any situation.

I'd enjoy that, sir. And I believe the gun shop has something that can assist you in a sitting position.

Date: 2009-10-08 04:49 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I approve - but my group has always been a somewhat more eclectic bunch than SOLDIER. We are by definition flexible in our techniques.

Eva's gun shop? No doubt - she's very well-stocked. When are you free this week?

Date: 2009-10-08 04:52 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
What is your group called, sir?

Affirmative, she hired me a while back. The hours are...flexible, so whenever you prefer.

Date: 2009-10-08 05:01 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Technically the Department of Administrative Research, but we're better known as the Turks.

Ah, I see. Hmm. Tomorrow afternoon, say three o'clock? I'm feeling a bit eager to get out of the house for a while.

Date: 2009-10-08 05:03 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
With all due respect, that's quite a method of administrative research if soldiers are participating.

Affirmative. Will you require assistance?

Date: 2009-10-08 05:11 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
Well, we're not /quite/ soldiers - but the company has always been fond of euphemisms and obfuscation.

No, that's alright. I'll have someone drop me off.

Date: 2009-10-08 05:14 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
Apparently.

I'll be waiting for you there then, sir.

Date: 2009-10-08 05:20 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] citydragon.livejournal.com
I'll see you then - I'm looking forward to it, heh.

Date: 2009-10-08 05:31 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] not117.livejournal.com
Same here, sir.
