NEEDS MOAR SASUKE

Dear Intarwebs,
So, I've been kind of intrigued by the screencaps of Naruto Shippuden. However, I'm a lazy bastard, and there is no way anybody is going to get me to watch all two hundred-whatever episodes of the first series. Is it necessary for the other, or not? And yeah, I know. I said I would never ever watch Naruto (or Bleach, or One Piece, etc).
Love,
Me

(PS: There is a story behind the subject line, I promise)

Well, I stopped reading the manga shortly after the shippuden part started, but I'd say it's not strictly necessary. Obviously, you'll be missing out on some backstory, but I don't think it'll cause you to clutch your head in abject confusion or anything. After all, if you want quick and dirty summaries of the first series, that's what the internet is for, right?

There is truth to this. Shounen series tend to be of the variety where once you get the 30-second character summary for everyone, you're usually good to go. The last hundred-plus series I watched was Prince of Tennis, though - missed out on the initial Naruto wave and the current Bleach wave sweeping my flist.
