Crap.

Oh wise internet - if an employmant ad just says to email my resume, to a given e-mail address, do I attach it, or paste it into the body? It's a .doc file. Also, given my status here, where would be an appropriate place to note that I am legally qualified to work in this country, if I should mention it at all? And yes, work permit arrived today from Alberta, so I am good to go for summer employment.

I always attach the .doc, but use the email area as a pseudo cover-letter :)

I do both. Attach it and say that that's the main file, and if that doesn't work, it's copied into the email, irregardless of formatting.

[livejournal.com profile] aelice is correct, you attach it as a .doc and write a cover letter as the main body of the email. Format it the way you would a normal cover letter and include at the bottom below your signature a reminder of the attachment. :)

Also, re: your other question. The cover letter. While briefly listing your qualifications it probably would not be a bad idea to include that you posess a work permit valid in Canada. Because i'm sure they have had people who were NOT legally able to work apply in the past, people are stupid.

It depends on what they say. If they don't specify, you can do whatever you want, and they'll correct you if it's wrong. However, a lot of places don't want attachments because of the fear they'll get a virus. OR, some workplaces have automatic blocks that'll remove your attachment. Especially true if it's a corporate set-up.

And, yeah, in your e-mail/cover letter, you'd want to mention that you're legal to work there.
