1) This is mostly for the Americans, although anyone can jump in if they feel free (although I know the Canadians' answer) - what would you call this style of hat?

2a) How many people here go to universities/colleges who decide registration times based on your previous averages?

2b) Have any of you had to defer required courses because they were full before your registration time came up/know someone who had to defer?

(The first came up in a discussion among the Wargamers, and the second, in a conversation I'm having right now with Yana, which sprung out of my worry about not getting the summer classes I wanted, 'cause I can't register until Monday)

I can't see the picture!

I have no answers for the other two. Sorry, hon.

Hm. Try it again now? I think my hotlink protection was kicking if you were viewing from your flist.

It's alright ^^ I'm mostly just kind of curious how the set-up goes at various places.

1. A beanie or a skullcap (What do Canadians call it?)

2a. No, at my school we all register online at the same time, then a few weeks later find out if we got the courses we registered for, with preference being given based on major and year (seniors get priority, then juniors, and so on).

2b. I've never had to defer a required class, but I know people at my school who have.

1) A toque/tuque, the origins of which are unknown to me.

2a) That...almost sounds worse. At least I know whether or not I got into a class - sorting here is by year and then by average within that year (I've got the short end of the stick - 1st years register last for summer, and then after May, I'll have 2nd year standing, and 2nd years register last for fall)

I must concur that it would be called a beanie or a skullcap. I've also heard it called a ski cap.

Unfortunately, I can't help with 2a, since I've only ever gone to schools that based registration times on class year (so that seniors waiting to graduate would get first priority, with incoming freshmen at last priority). I have indeed had to defer things because they were full, but got to take them the next semester when I was bumped further up the registration order.

UBC has some of that - Winter registration is done 1st, 4th, 3rd, and then 2nd, and sorted within year by average. Summer is 4th through 1st, and then by average.

Ski cap or knit cap. As for registration, my school did it by year, so I cannae help you there.

1. Doesn't work. ^^;

2a. Yeah, my college does that as well. "You've good acedemic standing. You may register," and other crap like that.

2b. Nope.
