Is the name 'Renée' familiar to anyone else? I saw it in some of the graffiti, and I feel like I should know it - but I can't remember.

Samehada-san, we should spar again sometime soon.

And you're... Stellaris-san, right? You were asking about the marshmallows.

I am. There is a pie recipe with marshmallow topping I'd like to try.

[She looked around, surveying the kinds of sweets sold in the shop and, more importantly, whether anyone else was within hearing range.]

[Souji came out from behind the counter - he could guess why she was really here. Even if that recipe did sound pretty interesting. Thankfully the shop was quiet for the moment, just the two of them.]

That sounds delicious! We have some sugar coated marshmallows here, and then some jelly-filled ones here, and some regular ones in fancy shapes here...

[There really was a marshmallow pie recipe, but if there weren't, she could just ask for chocolate chip, nougat, M&Ms, succade, dried fruits or anything. The harder part was assessing his trustworthiness. He had been vocally against the Sphere before, but allegiances could change.]

Oh, the fancy shapes are really cute! In fact, you have lots of cute-looking sweets. Working here must be fun.

It is, usually. And I get to try lots of things, so I don't mind it.

["Casually", while inspecting a jelly-filled marshmallow]

I see. So, did you pick this job because it's something familiar, or...?

[He shakes his head]

No, I just like candy. Before... I was a warrior. A law-keeper. [There's a certain hint of wistfulness there]

Ah. Ever thought of joining the Watch?

[Taking a wrapper now. It seems she's made a choice.]

I applied, actually - Stoneface-san said it wouldn't be a good fit, though.

Really? Why? [And soon added:]...Um, you don't have to answer if you don't want to. That was impolite of me.

[He smiles cheerfully]

No, it's fine! My fighting style wouldn't mesh well, so I understand why he declined.

[The Watch isn't into 'kill first, ask questions later'. Who'd have though >_>]

[His smiles made him less easy to read, she thought.]

I see, that's too bad. But I'm sure there are still many ways to contribute to the Edensphere society.

Mm, I guess. Though it's hard to do things with the Tree always messing around with us.

We get used to it, somehow. I have even heard some not wanting any other life than the life we have here.

[He shrugs lightly]

They can keep it, then, I suppose. As for me... I hate this place.

[He's still smiling, but there's a hint of bitterness underneath the cheerful voice.]

[She turned to face him, looking scandalised.]

D-Don't say something like that! Don't you know the Tree has ears everywhere?

[He shrugs lightly]

It hasn't bothered to stop me yet.

[And he's still smiling, but there's a look in his eyes that says 'bring it on.']

[Not the type to even mask dissent, was he? It was the moment of truth. If he was a lying crony of their enemy, whoever they were, she would be compromised. If he wasn't, she might gain information or ally. Stellaris walked towards him, the wrapper full of fancy-shaped marshmallow in hand.]

It could, though. Everyone says that.

[Then, onto the counter she took out the letter-shaped marshmallows, one by one spelling R, E, N, E, E.]

I'll take these, but I forgot my purse in the Scavenger's Yard. I could pay you back tomorrow, but you'll get more if you come pick it up there.

[He glances down at the marshmellows, and then glances back up to catch her eye. He understands]

Are you going down there now, or should I meet you there later?

Around 5 o'clock would be lovely.

[Even resistance group members need to finish work shifts first.]

[At the specified time, Stellaris waited alone—Or that was how she looked to those who couldn't see the hidden sniper a few hundred feets away.]

[Souji comes alone - though the sword at his side is clear enough. When he spots Stellaris, he gives her a cheerful wave.]

[She waves back.]

[He gives her a small bow]
