I'm starting to think I should keep extra clothes around in different sizes, just in case. This is getting annoying.

[Bit of a pause, then the following is added]

Rain-san, are you free?

quicklog

[Well. That look told Daitou that yes, Rain did have an answer to the question. He took the kimono with a small bow of thanks, and, having closed the door, turned to face away from Rain and begin changing]

I woke up like this, this morning. It's strange, having someone else's body.

[Rain averted his gaze politely as the other man changed.]

It is. [He knew perfectly well how strange it could be - he'd had his sister's body some time ago, after all. At least Daitou's transformation didn't seem to be as... upsetting as that had been. But then, it was quite possible that Daitou had no idea just whose body this was.]

...You find it familiar though, correct?

[Daitou nodded as he fumbled with his obi knot - that at least still fit, even if larger fingers was making it difficult. There's a note of false calm in his voice when he speaks]

The face looks familiar, though I can't place it. I heard this voice in my dream, though.

[Rain remained standing where he was, waiting for Daitou to finish changing. At least it seemed like the kimono would be about the right size.]

It's the vice commander's body. [Might as well cut to the chase. Rain said nothing further just yet, letting Daitou take that in. After all, the vice commander was someone very important to him, unless their memories were seriously misleading them.]

[Daitou finished tying the knot as Rain spoke. His hands dropped to his sides, and he was silent, not turning around for a few moments as he processed what Rain said. The vice commander. His friend... and perhaps, lover. The Tree really was cruel]

I see.

[His voice was soft, the earlier cheer gone.]

Date: 2011-02-22 03:33 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[When the sounds of rustling fabric stopped, and Daitou spoke, Rain looked back at him.]

[...All right, scratch his earlier thought. It was upsetting, at least if the man's body language was any indication. Rain exhaled slowly. What now? He wasn't exactly cut out for offering comfort or reassurance, and he knew it, but this silence that was beginning to stretch out as they stood there was an uncomfortable one.]

...Is the kimono acceptable?

Date: 2011-02-22 09:01 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
[Daitou swallowed, almost audibly, and then turns around to offer Rain a very faint smile.]

It is. Thank you.

[His expression falls a little, and he sighs.]

This place... can be very cruel.

Date: 2011-02-23 01:19 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[Even a faint smile still didn't look right, despite the knowledge that it was really Daitou and not the vice commander. Rain shut his eyes - it didn't help much, the voice wasn't Daitou's either - and nodded once in agreement. This place had a habit of being cruel.]

It happened roughly six months ago. Most people found themselves in other bodies for approximately a week.

[He paused, opening his eyes and once again looking at Daitou.]

Is there anything else you need?

Date: 2011-02-23 01:55 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
[It was hard to read the shinobi - understandably - but if Dai's guess was right, this was bothering Rain, too.]

I see. And not really - I thought you might know who I looked like, you remember more of our home.

[A pause as he weighed the potential of this next indiscretion. He trusted Rain, but he doesn't know how far the man is willing to go. Finally he spoke again, voice a little harsher this time]

This, what the Tree does - it isn't right.

Date: 2011-02-23 03:30 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[Rain's voice remained calm and even, in contrast to Daitou's harsher tone.]

It isn't. We're given little choice but to deal with it to the best of our abilities.

[That was a fact of life here, and it was frustrating, certainly - sometimes infuriating - but Rain usually hid his displeasure well. Raging about it could draw unwanted attention, after all.]

Date: 2011-02-23 08:47 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
And if you had a choice, to try and change things...?

Date: 2011-02-23 09:20 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[Rain shot Daitou a look.]

...I wouldn't speak of it so openly.

[That was a potentially dangerous topic, and while he found himself willing to discuss it with Daitou to some extent, it needed to be in a safer location. The Wilderness or the Scavenger's Yard; certainly not in the branches of the Tree. He motioned to the door with a slight tilt of his head, hoping the other man would catch on.]

Date: 2011-02-23 11:02 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
[Daitou nodded, understanding Rain's meaning, and then his usual smile was back again - though the falseness of it is a little more obvious on the changed face.]

Well, it's nice enough weather for a walk, ne?

Date: 2011-02-24 02:05 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[Rain nodded back and led the way out of the house, walking in silence to the elevator. The last time they'd gone somewhere safer to speak it had been the Wilderness, but with it changing every day lately, he wondered if the Yard would be the better choice.]

[They reached the elevator, and he asked before selecting which button to push.]
Do you know what state the Wilderness is currently in?

Date: 2011-02-24 05:45 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
[Daitou shook his head.]

No - it's been changing so fast, and I haven't had time to talk to any of the adventurers or anything...

Date: 2011-02-25 01:51 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
The Scavenger's Yard, then.

[The elevator doors closed behind them, and Rain pushed the button for the fifth floor. As the doors opened into the Yard a minute later, he stepped out and took a quick look around. He'd only been to this floor once or twice in all his time in Edensphere, as he typically didn't have any particular reason to come here. There were a few people milling about, and Rain began to navigate his way through the debris in search of a more secluded area for them to talk.]

Date: 2011-02-25 06:47 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
[Daitou nodded, remaining silent on the trip down, and as he followed Rain farther into the piles of scrap. He'd only ever been here once, on his initial exploration of the Sphere - the place felt... weird. No trees, just scrap metal, broken things... it made him a little uncomfortable. But Rain must have had a reason for choosing it]

Date: 2011-02-26 01:00 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[Go beneath the waves, that mystery writer (or writers?) had repeatedly said. The Yard was beneath everything, and as far from the Tree as one could get in Edensphere. Rain stopped once they reached a secluded area, and turned back to Daitou.]

As I understand it, this is the safest place to discuss things. [He sat down on what may have been part of a refrigerator and waited quietly for the other man to speak. Whether Daitou had something specific he wanted to discuss, or he just wanted to vent, Rain was willing to hear him out.]

Date: 2011-02-26 05:23 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
[Daitou took a seat as well, glancing over at Rain] Is it? I had not heard that - though it's good to know, now...

[There was a brief pause as Daitou contemplated the best way to approach the situation]

I've been spending a lot of time with Tian-dono lately... [He glanced over at the shinobi to see what his reaction was - what had Rain figured out on his own?]

Date: 2011-02-26 06:45 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[Rain kept up with the journals, and that entry of Daitou's earlier this month concerning flavours had given him a decent idea of just what sort of time the man had been spending with Tian. That was no business of his, though, and he doubted that it was what Daitou wished to speak about.]

[He gave a slight nod, his expression remaining entirely neutral.]

Date: 2011-02-26 10:55 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
Tian-dono... feels as I do, about this place. We both wish to change things.

Date: 2011-02-27 12:47 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
[So that's where this was going. Everyone wanted to change things here, but doing so - and living - was another matter. Did Daitou think that Tian might actually stand a chance against the powers at work in this place? Rain was intrigued, but he was also skeptical.]

...That's easier said than done. How do you intend to do it?

Date: 2011-02-27 07:24 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
[There's a short bark of laughter at that - not happy laughter, either]

I don't think we've gotten that far yet. We need more information still - and more allies.

Date: 2011-02-27 10:34 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com
That's where I come in. [Rain said that softly, almost to himself. So they had no plan yet... he was hesitant to agree to help without knowing what he was agreeing to. But at the same time, he couldn't refuse if he didn't know what he was refusing. He was fairly sure of one thing, though.]

I don't know Tian-dono [ - the honorific was added more for Daitou's sake than anything else - ], but you and I are already allies.

[What little they had recalled - that one radio memory, especially - had made that much apparent.]

Date: 2011-02-27 11:20 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com
Before, yes. [Daitou met Rain's eyes, this time, rather than half-glances of before] But you are free to choose, here.
