Decided to sit down and finally watch the episode with 1812, because seeing Serenity put me in a sci-fi kind of mood, and god, I remember now why I love this show so much XD;
Rygel: "When a woman, whether it's your wife, your lover, or a slave you purchased to be your wife or lover[...]"
Also, on Serenity (no spoilers, don't worry) - nice little sci-fi flick, although I think if I had been a fan of the tv show I'd have been a bit disappointed - it kind of smacked of the Farscape mini-series.
On an entirely unrelated note, the BPAL fall swap has begun, and I totally <3 the person I got. Huge geek! Yaaaay! (If the person who has me is reading this, uh, I forgot to mention on the questionaire what a great huge geek I am...science, video games, anime, manga, RP...I am totally there XD)

And since I've never seen Farscape, I'll have to say I have no idea of the concept of it being ripped off. If it was similar, I have no doubt that it just happened that way, since Joss is more than creative enough to not have to borrow ideas...

I'm starting to understand why you misunderstood so many of my posts. Reading comprehension is a valuable skill, and knee-jerk reactionism is not.
Ah, verbatim.

That was me stating that I was trying to verify one of two ways that could have been taken, not me having a knee-jerk reaction.
And, once again, I'll assume that you're lamenting the woes of the English language, and NOT insulting my reading comprehension, which is doing just fine, thank you very much.
And it's kind of hard to "misunderstand" the dislike of one's nation. But whatever.

Date: 2005-10-16 08:10 pm (UTC)From:And I dunno, whatever they did to Simon's character didn't really work for the audience that hasn't seen the show, mostly because he just came off as a prick with no personality, which apparently he's not so much in the tv series?

Date: 2005-10-16 08:15 pm (UTC)From:That must be a really small part of the fandom, because most of the folks on the forum and all the fans we know personally loved it.
As fras as Simon goes, I LOVED him in the movie, and Simon is my favorite character. He isn't, fortunately, the favorite of MOST of the fans in the series, which I find a shame. I'm not sure he's misunderstood as much as he isn't there for funny or bad-ass moments, and that's why most people like Mal, or Jayne, or Wash. But as an angst fan, I wholly appreciate what he does for River, and how much he gives up for her.
If he came off as a prick in the movie, people weren't paying enough attention to his motives.

Date: 2005-10-17 10:11 am (UTC)From:Yeah, in the interview, he did say that the one thing they really tweaked was the break-out, which Simon was never really a big part of originally. ::shrug:: It didn't bother me, but I suppose some people could have disliked him in the movie. It's hard be objective, those of us that "get" Simon because we knew him in the series.
But in Serenity (the pilot), he totally showed off some of his mad acting skills. He was super stuck up when he first boarded the ship, so I can see him pulling off a member of the military. Of course, as you watch the pilot and TV series progress, I think he looses confidence as he becomes more and more shocked by his surroundings, truly becoming a fish out of water with every weird and dangerous thing that happens.
And yeah, the vibes were a little different. He would have never hit Mal first in the series. Too barbarian...not to mention that oath he took there....:)
