So, among many other things I will blog about eventually (ie, tomorrow), I'm currently deciding which version of Sephiroth I want to do for my senior project before going wild buying and drafting stuff. It's down to Advent Children!Sephiroth and the default FF7 outfit.
Default FF7 has the advantage of not looking like a heroin addict and not having those weird and probably impossible to find buckles.
Advent Children has the advantage of not having leg-of-mutton sleeves (Dear Nomura, those haven't been in style since the 16th century) or crack-bangs, and shoulders that don't suffer from that CLAMP coat-hanger look.
Either way I get to make glove gaskets! Ah, crack FF designs are love.
Opinions from the masses?

Date: 2005-09-27 11:30 am (UTC)From:(In relation to our other FF7 thread of conversation - apparently Hojo carries the title 'hakase', which apparently translates to 'professor' in the original Japanese - although Gast calls him 'Hojo-kun' XD)
no subject
Date: 2005-09-27 02:04 pm (UTC)From:(Ne, actually, 'hakase' is translated to mean 'doctor'; or so I'm pretty sure. Doctor in the sense of an academic researcher; aka. when you get your PhD, you become a 'Doctor' of your study. Which would still prove your point. XD But, yeah- 'Kyoju' translates to 'Professor', not 'hakase'. *Nit Picks*)

Date: 2005-09-27 02:12 pm (UTC)From:(Ah, okay - I was supplied with the translation and was too lazy to double check. Jen is forgiven for the error, I know she's not one of those people who's studied Japanese for years and years XD And yeah, I guess the point would still stand, although the argument is from a different direction)

Date: 2005-09-27 04:20 pm (UTC)From:Jen is the world's biggest FF7 fangirl, I think XD She has practically _everything_ to do with it - including the brand new Ultimania Omega guide which she's been scanning bits of and sharing. Best crack-dealer EVAR XD
as I continue to be spamtastic and add one miiiillion comments
Date: 2005-09-27 05:11 pm (UTC)From:Jen sounds like a Deity. I have Vishal, who's my FF7 Tasty Bits dealer; if you need to know the symbolism of Cloud's latest '...' he'll somehow cook something up for you. Fangirls, by the by, rawk hard XD What would us lesser groupies do without them, their plethora of facts, and illegal copies of stuff? (Ultimania Omega? Explain, explain!)
Comment convos are fun!
Date: 2005-09-27 05:29 pm (UTC)From:Jen truly is a goddess among fangirls, I think. Although I'm not sure who has a bigger collection of Seph/Cloud doujin, her or my friend Skuld.
The Ultimania Omega is pretty much a big book of, as far as I can tell, anything you ever wanted to know about FF7, ever, along with tons and tons of concept art and stuff. I found out that Sasuga has copies, so I think I'm going to have to buy it even though my Japanese is like a four-year-old's XD
Trend Setting; LJ- it's the new AIM!
Date: 2005-09-27 05:49 pm (UTC)From:Doujin is the true mark of the fangirl. Have you ever come across that fabulous man who sells the Doujinshi at cons, and assaults all crossplayers, claiming they have 'not had their proper daily dose of yaoi, and need more man-love in their lives'? XD He is spiffing.
FF7 Bible. Yum. If you need help with the translations, just feel free to ask here. =D As long as you have a scanner, I can be your Matron of Paraphrasation.
New Seph Icon = Angular Prettiness.
All the _cool_ kids are doing it!
Date: 2005-09-27 06:06 pm (UTC)From:...I am a bad fangirl, then, because I don't buy doujin unless I reeeeally like the images because I can't read any of it. Thus I only have a little bit of YnM and X/TB, and one really nice FMA. And no, haven't met that guy XD (Hey, next con I go to, I can buy yaoi doujin on my own! SCORE!)
I've got a scanner, so once I aquire The Shiny, I'll be sure to share ^^ Jen translated out a few interesting facts, but I'm a huge geerk and want mooooore.
Anything with Seph = prettiness, I think. That man is so awesome.
Then we're hip to the groove, main man.
Date: 2005-09-28 07:15 am (UTC)From:Gasp and shockers! Don't be silly! How dare you INSINUATE that people buy doujinshi to read it! It is of course only bought so as to stare at the pretty pictures, and contemplate what it would be like to worship at the artist's feet. XD I think I translated a Marauder!Era Harry Potter one from cover to cover once... stories > smut, by *far*. (PS- Anything with Remus Lupin is love.) A friend of mine bought me a very lovely YnM one... sadly, I have no X/TB crack in my collection, so I'll just be jealous of yours. (Turning eighteen soon? =D)
Yesa. Just toss something at my head (and by that I mean IM/Email/comment) if you need more final fantasy goodness uncovered.
Yes, by George, he is.
...I am going to murder Cloud's gloves.
...I have no words XD
Date: 2005-09-28 07:40 am (UTC)From:And I guess that makes me special, because I always kind of want to know what's going on XD And yeah, Lupin = love. X/TB doujin is so hard to find at cons nowadays - all my stuff where either gifts from friends, or bought off of friends who were clearing out their collection some. (In March, which is before AB XD)
And you think _Cloud's_ gloves are bad? Seph's have _gaskets_ for god knows what reason. We can mourn the crack-gloves together, I guess XD
Speechless... I win! =P
Date: 2005-09-28 08:54 am (UTC)From:If I can't figure it out/am too lazy to figure it out, I just guess based on facial expression. That leaves a lot of room for interpretation... one day, Sirius might be saying "OMGWTF that was MY pie!" and the next it could be "For the last time, no! I will not wear that skirt, it makes me look fat!" // Mandrake, which is where I got all my stock of doujin when I visited Japan, had a huge X collection. But I was too poor for it, hee. No TB though. My soul cries. ;-; (Yay! Congratulations! You can now get lung cancer, vote for people who aren’t bush, and get slightly homoerotic porn! ...It feels just like being 17, only slightly less prudent.)
I just discovered Cloud's gloves have mini Fenrir-heads on them. X_X Pfshph?! Character designs hurt the laws of physics and rationality.
Yes, but _what_ do you win ^^?
Date: 2005-09-28 10:14 am (UTC)From:Yes, they do. At least AC!Seph doesn't have leg of mutton sleeves or the giant coat-hanger shoulders a la CLAMP. I still sit here going 'Nomura, what the hell were you thinking?', though.
Can it be a lifetime supply of shampoo? With Fresh, Morning Mist scent?
Date: 2005-09-28 01:44 pm (UTC)From:And yet, somehow Sephiroth, even with the offensive sleeves and murderous shoulders, still managed to go above and beyond the laws of badass, creating a new level of 'cool' all his own. He is the a la mode of villainy, that others can only aspire to.
Sadly, I have no shampoo. Settle for fanservice cosplay photos?
Date: 2005-09-28 03:33 pm (UTC)From:...And Square has been making cheap rip-offs of him ever since XD He really was their crowning glory of villians.
I think we have a deal.
Date: 2005-09-28 05:35 pm (UTC)From:Kefka wasn't too bad, and I was fond of Kuja purely for his Lestat-complex and no other reason. But yes. Obviously, other villians are forced to flee in phear of being crushed when compared with Sephy.
Exeeellent.
Date: 2005-09-28 05:51 pm (UTC)From:Well, Kefka was pre-FF7. So he's harder to compare - he does give me yet more proof in the 'clowns are scary' department, though. I thought Sin in FFX was an interesting concept, although that game had it's cheap Seph knock-off in Seymour.
Re: Exeeellent.
Date: 2005-09-28 06:25 pm (UTC)From:Clowns, despite what any dare devils may say, are indeed the apex of 'creepy in a bad way'. The face paint, the gross hair, the grinning, and the total visual rape of their outfits is overbearing, and ought to be avoided. //End Rant. Seymour, let's just say was Sephiroth Clone #21. XD He escaped, and co-starred in his own game, with Cloud rip-off, Tidus. And by Cloud rip-off, I mean the hair alone. If Tidus is what Cloud would have been like with lines, I'm glade Strife was the Trowa Barton of FF7.
Ha! Now I win!
Date: 2005-09-28 06:32 pm (UTC)From:Have you ever read any of the Discworld books? The Fool's Guild is scary, particularly it's head, Dr. Whiteface. *twitch* And yeah, Tidus totally has Cloud's hair (Although Sora in KH is worse - I forget who Skuld and I decided Cloud was having a love child with on that one. Vincent, maybe? We definitely decided KH Cloud was cheating on Seph with Vincent XD). He doesn't have the personality, though, and he's way straighter than Cloud. I kind of like him even if he is a gigantic loser XD
Taking advantage of the sleepy... I challange you to a Re-Match!
Date: 2005-09-28 06:52 pm (UTC)From:No! No, I haven't, and my soul breaks a little bit each time people bring up a book I haven't read. Especially this one, because I've been asked that before. Worth getting, much? - Probably Vincent, since the day before the filming of KH, Cloud seemed to have slept in. When he dressed for work, still in a sleepy daze, he accidentally slung on Vincent’s Torn Cape (c) and metal arm of oddness instead of his own garb, then made his way to the KH set. Evidence? I think so.
Sora is, by far, the biggest loser (maybe second to Zell) that Final Fantasy has ever created. XD I love him too, aside from his giant yellow shoes. Those are weapons, I tell ya.
No! No rematch for you!
Date: 2005-09-28 07:09 pm (UTC)From:I think the explanation Skuld and I came up with was that Seph found out that Cloud was cheating on him, and fried him, leaving just the metal arm and cloak, which is why Cloud has them and Vincent isn't in KH. Riku is definately Cloud and Sephiroth's lovechild, though XD
Sora _is_ kind of a great big loser. He's younger than a lot of Square's other great big losers, though, so it can be forgiven ^^
Gasp! Where is your chivalry?! I'll notify Lancelot about this, I swear it!
Date: 2005-09-29 03:40 am (UTC)From:Burn Victim Cloud; sounds like a very estranged addition to the Barbie line. (They actually make a Burn Victim Anakin doll via Star Wars... it's disturbing and crispy.) Oooh yes. XD Riku is definitely what happened when Seph and Cloud had too much time on their hands during the making of FF8.
But if he grows up to be *not* a giant loser... that would be sad.
His hair, like his shoes, is also a weapon.
I never claimed to be chivalrous - just an evil bastard
Date: 2005-09-29 04:28 am (UTC)From:No, he'll probably still be a gigantic loser. Just slightly less of one.
Yeah, he could just put his head down and ram people. Would be more effective then smacking them with a giant key.
But isn't it the law that evil bastards lose eventually? You just wait until disc 4.
Date: 2005-09-29 04:35 am (UTC)From:In that case, he's forgiven.
A tad more painful though, I'd wager. Might also muss his style. He'd need to use Kwik-Seal... on his head.
Shhh, you. I haven't declared myself to be a god yet, I'm okay for the moment.
Date: 2005-09-29 11:26 am (UTC)From:What, Vincent reproduces by budding XD?
This is true. It would be rally funny to see, though.
Pish-Tosh! Your Icon says it all!
Date: 2005-09-29 07:25 pm (UTC)From:...I am dead. That killed me. ^^; Aww, Vince is delicate, fragile, and lovely, like a wee flower! Or is it just his aftershave that smells of lillies?
No, that's just Seph, who gets to end up dead _twice_ XD
Date: 2005-09-29 07:30 pm (UTC)From:And beat up by Sora too, might I add =P
Date: 2005-09-29 07:52 pm (UTC)From:Bah, he didn't care if Sora won. All he wanted is Cloud's ass. Which he then got.
Date: 2005-09-29 08:11 pm (UTC)From:Was that in his official contract?
Date: 2005-09-29 08:30 pm (UTC)From:If it wasn't, it _should_ be.
Date: 2005-09-29 08:45 pm (UTC)From:...I had the realization that we're going to be, uh, _special_ Cloud/Seph cosplayers, I think XD
Well, I'm sure employee #226 didn't want to be the one to tell Seph "Uh, about the Cloud thing, no."
Date: 2005-09-29 08:55 pm (UTC)From:XD Special is good...
It's like the red-shirts in Star Trek! They exist only to be killed off.
Date: 2005-09-30 04:17 am (UTC)From:I'm inclined to agree XD
