Hi! I just stumbled over you entry while searching dreamwidth and wanted to thank you for this wonderful post! At times I really feel I'm one of the only cosplayers interested in sharing the "process" of making a costume and I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in that!
Well, I love the finished product and presentation, but cosplay is also about the work you put into it.
And I totally agree that it's sad how the community tends to focus on the physical attributes of the costumer too much.
German fandom is using the German site Animexx which lets you do many of the things you seem to be looking, like tagging pictures in ways that connect them to conventions, costumes, pictures of the props you made etc. at least to some extend. But it's still far from ideal, because it was designed to share event pictures and the cosplay archive came "later".
