Well, I'm more than happy for the help - I'm probably the most well-versed of my friends about firearms and the related accesories (which isn't saying much), and it means I mostly have to turn the the power of Google for answers when I need to know something.
All the Galcos I came across photos of (granted, third-party sellers) didn't have the front strap. I did notice the back difference, and the prescense of what look like adjustment tabs on Leon's.
I'm not skilled enough to do the whole thing from scratch, unfortunately, but I may be able to manage the straps, and match the leather to the mag pouches and what-not. I was planning on checking ebay a lot, although when I looked the other night, most were going for pretty much retail price. I'll check out the other links, too, when I've got the time - thank you for the suggestions!
The big problem with costuming this particular game series (Resident Evil) is that most of the characters are some form of military or ex-military, and dress accordingly - the character designers are absolutely spot-on for some things, like Leon's pants, boots, and gloves, sort of on for some things, like the shoulder rig, and only vaguely close for some, like the shirt. So the challenge is deciding when it's best to be accurate to the game art, and when it's best to be accurate to the real-world stuff.
