Radio Memory

The clatter of geta on wooden floors and Daitou's voice. It sounds like he's talking to himself.]

"Yes! I want some too!"

[The footsteps stop abruptly, and Rain's voice comes in among a burst of static]

"Where are you going?"

"Um, you know, [static] healthy food doesn't taste so good..."
[There's a pause while someone - most likely Daitou - coughs, somewhat wetly. He sounds a little breathless when he speaks again]
"So every once in a while... I want to eat sweet stuff..."

[Rain is having none of this, and that much is clear even with voice alone.]

"Then I'll bring something to your room. You shouldn't be out in the cold air until your fever goes down a little. And your throat doesn't sound good, either."

[Dai, clearly dejected-] "Oh... Well I want to eat, but... How can I say this..." [He sighs softly and then continues.] "...Look. Everyone's over there... It's been so long... I want to be with everyone... You know?"

[There's a long pause as Rain considers this, then the sudden clatter of geta again and Daitou's triumphant cry.]

"Now's my chance!!"
"Running is bad for your health!"
"I'm fine!!"

I'm at [unit #], in section 1. I'll be here for the next couple of hours, probably.

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be there shortly.

[ooc: Quicklog? I'm heading to bed now, but if you want to start one I'll tag back tomorrow~]

1/2

I'll be waiting, then.

[Daitou made a quick effort to tidy up his living space - not that he had a great deal to tidy up, in such a small space, but he did his best. One of the extra sitting cushions got put out, and then... he waited.]

[The punishment from the memory crystal had worn off today, and thus, Rain had been in a better mood... at least until that broadcast. While it hadn't revealed anything of a personal nature about him, having moments of his life played for all the Sphere to hear didn't exactly sit well.]

[It had been awhile since he'd had reason to be in section one, or even on the housing level at all, but having lived here for a short time he knew his way around. He found Daitou's house easily enough, and knocked on the door.]

[Daitou rose, opening the door for Rain. He gave the man a faint smile - somehow they kept meeting like this]

Come in.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Rain entered, slipping off his shoes as he did so. It was an odd thing, certainly, to have cause for discussions of this nature twice within only a few days. Memories were normally much more spaced out... not that he minded getting them back, but he would have appreciated it much more had it not been so public. He had to wonder why the Sphere was suddenly being so generous with everyone's memories.]

[He said nothing at first; he simply looked at Daitou. Seriously and expectantly. He didn't want to have to be blunt and just ask are you sick, since it was clear from the man's responses to everyone else that he wanted to brush it off as nothing. So, starting with a more general question. He'd wait to see if more prodding was necessary.]

Do you know what that was about?

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Daitou moved to take a seat again - it was a good excuse not to look him in the eyes as he spoke]

I was sick - you seemed to be... taking care of me.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Rain sat as well, watching Daitou closely.]

Do you know why?

[It didn't make a lot of sense to him; it wasn't a shinobi's job to look after people. Quite the opposite, really. He could only conclude that they must have been, as he'd said, friends... which also didn't make much sense. A shinobi didn't have friends... right? He'd been told quite clearly in his dream - by his sister's voice - that he was on his own.]

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Daitou shook his head, finally meeting Rain's gaze]

No.

[It was an honest answer - he was as puzzled as Rain was about this new development in their relationship. It hasn't quite sounded like friends - more like that of a caretaker. Which as far as he could tell didn't mesh with his personality /or/ what he did here in the Sphere]

Do you remember what you did, before?

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Rain hesitated at the question. He knew perfectly well what he was, but he'd never told anyone here. Still... judging from his recent memory, it was something Daitou had known as well. He'd been the one to tell the vice commander to give him his orders. And Rain did feel uncommonly inclined to trust this man... all right. He closed his eyes with a light sigh.]

I'm a shinobi. [Not past tense, but present. He looked back at Daitou once more. Well, since he was being bluntly honest, maybe he could expect the other to be the same...]

Are you sick now? Here?

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
[A shinobi. Somehow this seemed like less of a surprise than it should be - something he had known before, perhaps?

There's a pause before he answered the question - his first instinct was to brush it off, like he had with all the others. But Rain had known, in that memory - that much was clear. And if he was a shinobi - he'd find out, eventually, no doubt. His gaze dropped down to his folded hands]

...Yes.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[That was actually a bit of a surprise to Rain. Daitou didn't act sick... not that they'd spent much time in each other's company, but he usually came across as quite upbeat and cheerful on the journals (when people weren't dying). If Rain had been taking care of him, though... he must have known, surely?]

[He was quiet for several long moments, letting the new information sink in. That, and he didn't quite know what to say.]

Not just a bad cold, then. [And that probably wasn't the best thing he could have said, considering that Daitou didn't seem too keen on talking about it. But if it was something Rain had known about before, he wanted to know about it now.]

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dai wished he had a cup of tea to occupy his hands, give him a reason to not look at Rain. Having had this conversation before with Crow doesn't make it any easier. He reaches over and picks up Digit, who'd been eyeing the newcomer warily, and plops the cat on his lap in place of a cup of tea.]

No. Tuberculosis.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rain ignored the cat entirely; it could eye him all it wanted, as long as it stayed over there.]

[As Daitou answered, his eyes widened, and he looked incredulously at him before turning his gaze down to the floor, furrowing his brows. Even without memories, Rain knew that was serious. Would it kill him? Could people die of illness here? He supposed few stuck around long enough to find out... ah, but maybe that wasn't it at all. This place had futuristic medicines and treatments, and even people who could heal using magic. He looked back at Daitou intently.]

Have you been to the clinic?

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ninja cat doesn't know what to make of you, ninja man, so he'll be over here getting loved on.

Daitou nods.]

Yes - Lezard-san said it had been fairly advanced when I got here. But I have medicine for it now.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Rain let out a slow breath; what do you know, he felt relieved. Whether they'd actually been friends or not, he was at least sure now that Daitou was someone he'd been on good terms with.]

It's helping? [He realized he was prodding now, but he wanted to know as much as Daitou would tell him.]

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Daitou nodded, finally letting a small smile slip out.]

A lot.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
All right.

[Rain nodded once, satisfied - with the types of medicines this world had, Daitou would most likely be fine. There was something else he was wondering though, and he considered for a moment how best to word it.]

...Does it seem at all... strange to you that I was taking care of you?

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Daitou paused in petting Digit, brow creasing somewhat.]

Only when I really think about it, and compare it to what I know here. The memory itself doesn't feel...false. Just strange in comparison.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. [It felt extremely strange to Rain. Taking care of sick people seemed like one of the last things he should have been doing - he had no medical training that he knew of. There was that first aid course he'd taken shortly after arriving in Edensphere, but it hadn't rung any bells... and if he'd done that kind of work back home, shouldn't it have seemed at least a little bit familiar? There was no denying, however, that it had been his voice in that memory just now.]

I think... it provided more questions than answers. [He hated it when that happened.]

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Daitou nodded, resumed petting the cat]

It seems like that's usually the case around here...some information, and a lot of questions. I guess... all we know for sure is that we had some sort of close relationship, before. Even if it was just a working one.

[Sorry Rain, not his type]

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[It was trying, being fed only small morsels of information without any context and attempting to make sense of them. All they could do was piece them together to the best of their ability in the hope that, over time, the bigger picture would emerge. Rain was patient, but that didn't mean he wasn't also frustrated.]

[He hid it well enough though, nodding back calmly.]
It's something.

[It's okay Dai, he knows you may have been spoken for.]

[Quicklog]

[identity profile] coughcoughshank.livejournal.com 2011-01-30 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
It is.

[He gave Rain a glance - a slightly harder one this time]

What I told you... was only for you to know. Don't tell the others.

Re: [Quicklog]

[identity profile] notpissedoff.livejournal.com 2011-01-30 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
[For a brief moment, Rain was offended that Daitou thought there might be any chance he'd tell anyone... but he forced the feeling down. However well they may have known each other before, they were still barely acquaintances here. It made sense for the man to take such precautions.]

[He met Daitou's gaze evenly.]
Understood.
