Actually, another method hit me that I've used. Do you have Animation Shop? Using Virtual Dub, just find the frame number to start from and to end. Somewhere in Animation shop, you can open all the frames you want from a clip or whatever. Then you can save the frames you want. It's quicker than the method you mention in your post. But I don't remember too much about this method since I haven't done it in some time.
