I've never been to New England; I assume the cities there have a different feeling than those on the West Coast. Sure, I've seen New York and Boston in movies and have read about them, but something about this description conveys the feeling of actually having been in the cities more than any of those have. Assuming, of course, your feeling is the same feeling I would have being there, but your preferences and the way you see Midgar make that seem likely.
