I must grab the radio play sometime! (have not heard it ;_;) I was introduced to the Guide at age 7 by watching the then-current TV show *is elderly ;)* ...it was very confusing to me, but very wonderful. I particularly liked the sequence at Milliways, and of course the answer to life, the universe and everything (in fact, the deal with "42" being the answer and perhaps not understanding the question to life, the universe, and everything has probably coloured my philosophy/outlook on life ever since. Nice one, Douglas Adams ^__^).
