From the perspective of the person writing/blogging/designing, LiveJournal indeed bites major baboon ass. Where LiveJournal really succeeds is as journal reading software. The friend's list and the ?style=mine command make the wishes of the designer secondary to those of the reader, which is wonderful if someone has an asinine design that you have to squint to read or simply find aesthetically appalling. To my mind, the ideal function of a LiveJouranl-esque tool would be to aggregate RSS feeds into a sort of friend's list while feeding the comments back to source. I'm not geeky enough to know how difficult this would be or if a similar tool exists or if security settings could be preserved in such a setting.

And I don't know if you care, but I seem to remember that you use MT and I'm sure I've seen a plug-in to create threaded comments on MT, although if your primary readership comes through LiveJournal, I suppose it might not be worth the trouble.
